Connect PC to TV

Computer or, Internet related problems?

There are many reasons why you might want to connect your PC to your TV

When I was a lad, TVs had a built-in receiver - use one cable to connect one to a terrestrial antenna and you were up and running. BBC and ITV - the good old (uncomplicated) days! Nowadays, most modern TVs also have built-in digital receivers and they too, automatically receive free to air (digital) TV services through an antenna. However, receiving any other type of TV service, usually involves connecting the TV to another external receiver - something like a satellite TV receiver or, set-top box of some kind. Then, there are videos, DVDs, Blu-ray players, Wiis and more lately, laptop computers and PCs - but why would you want to connect your TV to a computer? There are many reasons - let's take a look at some of them.

Why connect my PC to my TV?

The role of the TV is to display moving images. Over the years, what has changed frequently, is the method of delivery or, source of these images. A computer monitor is nothing else but a display with no built in receiver! It does however, have a major advantage over our TV - it connects to our computer which in turn, is connected to the internet. The internet is full of (moving images) content - isn't connecting them all together just common sense, especially, as nowadays, in most homes, the TV is the biggest and best available display. OK, readers with plenty of money may already have a massive (TV-like) computer monitor, but if you don't and you would like to connect your TV to your PC - this article is for you!

Connect PC to TV for an easy life!

Back when there were just a few TV channels to choose from, life was oh, so simple! Changing channels was easy, choosing what to watch was easy too. The main problem we all faced, was altering our personal schedules to suit the time that our favourite program was on TV.
The advent of satellite TV made things more complicated and nowadays, with hundreds of channels to choose from, just looking through their electronic programme guides is a full time job - never mind trying to fit the programme times into our busy personal schedules.
A simple internet search reveals that there is an ever increasing amount of video and film content available on-line, and lately, more and more of our favourite TV stations and programmes are also available online, and there's no doubt that using the internet to find content is far easier and quicker than trawling through our TV's electronic programming guide, and the online content is available on demand - at a time that suits our personal schedule. Problem is - our small computer monitors.

Choosing the correct cables

There are many different types of audio and video connectors. The audio and video connectors on your PC will probably not be the same as they are on your television. Choosing which connectors to use and which cables will produce the best quality audio and video is not easy, unless of course you have read our guide, which contains pictures of all the different types of connectors and cables.
