England world cup qualifying match
Match shown exclusively on the internet
Today, history is in the making - for the first time ever, an England World cup qualifying football match (against the Ukraine) will only be shown 'live' over the internet... but why?
Could it be the £2 million fee that Kentaro (the owners of the rights) wanted for the live TV live exclusive or, could it be, that the kick-off time clashes with UK TV prime time billing? (two new series start on ITV today - "You've been framed" and "Harry Hill's TV Burp" and of course, following that, there is the first live performances on the "Xfactor" and the BBC also, have their own blockbuster programme airing tonight - "Strictly come Dancing" which starts at 7pm.)
Whatever the reason, England's game with the Ukraine will not be shown live on TV - It seems that the £2 million price tag was also, beyond the resources of Sky Sports, who have refused to confirm or, deny, that they 'even' put in a bid for the match.
OK, England have already qualified for next year's World Cup, but that's not stopping the fans describing this situation as a 'disaster' and an 'outrage.'
Kentaro have capped the amount of on-line subscribers who can watch the match, to 1 million and with a price tag of £11.99 - it's not cheap. You can sign up to watch it, at - http://www.ukrainevengland.com, but hang on - before you do, you need a VPN (virtual private network) connection to the UK otherwise, you can't even pay to watch, because Turkey is on the list of countries that the media rights do not cover.
So, where does this leave the football fans amongst us? At £2 million for the exclusive rights, the TV companies weren't interested. Does this mean that Kentaro will reduce their price for 'exclusives' in the future and that the games 'will' be made available on TV or, if Kentaro are successful in selling their 1 million on-line tickets at £11.99 (£4.99 if you signed up before Thursday 8th October) does this mean, that 'more' future games will 'only' be available on-line - at a price! It seems that there is no end to the amount of money that the football 'business tycoons' will attempt to extract from our wallets, to watch our national sport.

Interested football fans can visit www.ticvpn.com where you can obtain a FREE 'weekend pass' to one of tic's VPN servers in the UK. This will allow you to sign up on-line with Kentaro and watch the game on the internet. Holders of bet365.com accounts are able to watch the game FREE with a funded account and no doubt, simultaneously bet on who is going to score the first goal, in what minute - the wonders of technology! You can also, of course, sign up with "bet365.com" today and deposit £10 into your account, which will 'also' entitle you to watch the game - FREE !
Don't forget though, you do need (at least) a 1Mb internet connection and your wife's approval, but If you have any trouble convincing her, don't forget, the FREE 'weekend pass' will also allow you to watch tonight's "Xfactor" and "Strictly come dancing."

The telephone is fantastic, after struggling with Skype and paying silly prices for the mobile phone for a year we are more than happy to recommend the system.

The reception is as good as a land line and we do not have to leave the computer on. Having the extension phone in the kitchen means we can hear the phone anywhere in the house, great! Brian Hare (TRNC)
