This copy of windows did not pass Genuine Windows validation

"On 17th April, I switched my computer on and all I had was a black screen. Usually, there is a beautiful picture with an Indian theme on the desktop, but it was just black and was displaying, 'You may be a victim of software counterfeiting' and then, another box came up saying, 'This copy of windows did not pass Genuine Windows validation' - Is there anything that can be done to help me?" asks Val Barrett.

Are you running an illegal version of Windows?

Val, it sounds like someone at some point, has installed or, re-installed an illegal copy/version of Windows on your computer and that your Windows system has automatically up-dated and downloaded the "Windows Validation Tool" which detects illegal versions of their program.

Once the validation tool is on your computer, I'm afraid that this message will keep appearing.

There is a way to validate your copy/version of Windows through Microsoft. To find out more, click on the link in the message that is being displayed on your computer.

What is a blocked VLK? - Sounds painful!

"Over the past few months, when I start Windows, a pop-up has been appearing telling me that my copy of Windows is not genuine however, the other day, I received a message saying that the VLK has been blocked and my cursor keeps freezing. I have to re-start my computer to get it going again and it works for a while but then freezes again. Is there anything that I can do to stop this from happening," asks Peter.
There are various ways that you can get rid of the message telling you that your version of Windows is not genuine, but quite honestly, the best way to solve your problem, is to enter a genuine product key into your version of Windows.
Lost your license key for your version of Windows? You can retrieve the license key (and make a note of it) using a program called Magical Jelly Bean Key Finder. This program doesn't generate illegal license keys, but it will retrieve the license key from your (genuine) version of Windows.
There are two ways in which you can legally change your product license key in Windows. Send us a request using the form (below) and we will forward further information to you.
What is the point of all this? The writer of the malware receives payment, in the form of advertising revenue, for generating traffic to the web sites that it displays in its 'hijacked' search results so, if you find that you are being 'mysteriously' diverted to alternative search results - its time to check out your PC!
