Nowadays, consumer electronics suppliers are locked into a permanent battle of continuous improvement as they jostle with their competitors for the prestigious position of "market leader" in their respective fields.
In fact, nowadays, with technology moving and improving so quickly, there's hardly a week that goes by without some sort of "new" or, "improved" product launch by one company or, another.
So much so, that whereas in the past, the introduction of a technological advance in a particular product would almost certainly result in the supplier grabbing a bigger share of the market-place, nowadays, consumers are not so easily moved to put their hands into their pockets and have learned to wait a little before committing any of their hard-earned cash to a new, improved version of a product that they already have - why ?
Well, consumers have come to realise that this week's new, 'exclusive' features in a product have a nasty habit of becoming next week's 'standard' features in the rest of the market place and that the premium price that they have to pay for owning the latest technology a week earlier than everyone else, just maybe, isn't worth it !
The new technology that I am going to introduce to you in this week's column, is in my opinion, nothing less than 'fantastic' and I suspect that many of our readers will agree with me on this.
I have ordered one and generally, I am not an early adopter of new technology, but I just couldn't help myself and I suspect that many of our readers will follow suit and that is why I am introducing this new product in the way that I am.
I suspect that in the not too distant future, the special feature that is included in this product will become a standard feature in the market-place generally. It may not become a standard feature that is available on all the different suppliers' products, but it will almost certainly become a standard feature on at least one of the main suppliers' products that dominate the market-place.
So, if you like your gadgets and you are an early adopter of new technology or, if you are one of those people who look at professionally taken photographs and wonder how the photographer has got the focus just right or, if you are one of those people who have taken a photograph and then, later discovered that it is ruined because it is out of focus, let me introduce you to www.lytro.com - the home of light field cameras and living pictures !
The way we communicate visually is evolving rapidly, and people's expectations are changing in lockstep. Light field cameras offer astonishing capabilities. They allow both the picture taker and the viewer to focus pictures after they're snapped, shift their perspective of the scene, and even switch seamlessly between 2D and 3D views. With these amazing capabilities, pictures become immersive, interactive visual stories that were never before possible - they become living pictures.
Professional photographers will just hate this !
