Satellite TV merger benefits subscribers
|
With a combined subscriber base of 300,000+, the region's largest pay-TV operator was created when, in July 2009, Orbit and Showtime Arabia announced that they were to merge.
The merger created a NEW brand (OSN - Orbit Showtime Network - launching February 2010) with 70 exclusive television channels.
Subscribers didn't have to wait long to benefit from the merger with 5 premium channels from the Showtime line-up (Showmovies 1, Showseries, Showcomedy, Showsports 3 and E! Entertainment) made available immediately to Orbit subscribers, and 3 premium channels from the Orbit line-up (Super Movies, America Plus and Super Comedy) made available immediately to Showtime subscribers.
Senior management of the newly merged pay-TV platform promised maximum entertainment and great value for money with the best of what Hollywood has to offer.

Satellite TV - British Soaps
|
British Soap fans will be pleased to hear that Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders are in the programme line-up, together with other, popular British and American programmes such as Spooks and CSI.
The inclusion of the BBC Entertainment channel adds a host of other popular programmes - Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, Doctors, Antiques Roadshow, The Weakest Link, Casualty and too many more to mention.
|
Satellite TV - Broadcast footprint
|
The TV platform broadcasts via the Nilesat (seven degrees West) and Eutelsat Eurobird 2 (25.5 degrees East) satellites. The signal is encrypted meaning that viewers need a smart card to access the programming.
The two satellites also carry many other free-to-air TV channels and services.
A relatively small dish of 60-90cm receives the signal in the Middle East and Central/North Africa. Slightly larger dishes are needed in areas on the fringes of the footprint, but users in Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the UK, all report satisfactory viewing with the appropriately sized satellite dish.
