iGoogle gadgets for your home page
Last week, I wrote about a nice little Google-powered gadget called "Google Translate" which allows users to translate English into 50+ other languages and back again.
Google-powered gadgets are small objects made by Google users that offer cool and dynamic content. They can be placed on any page on the web or, added to your iGoogle home page or, your Google desktop. There are literally hundreds of them. Something to suit all tastes and interests: currency converters, calculators, clocks, news and sports feeds, games, brain-teasers - the list goes on and on.
So, let's look at how to set up your own iGoogle home page and add some of your favourite Google gadgets.
First, visit the Google home page - www.google.com or, www.google.co.uk and click on the iGoogle link in the top right hand corner.
On the first page, you can select your own areas of personal interest by placing a tick in each of the corresponding boxes, choose between: news, tools, communication, fun & games, finance, sports, lifestyle and technology.
You can also choose a theme and there are several to choose from, but we recommend choosing the basic Google background theme.
Next, select your Country/region and enter your postcode. This information is used to determine any dynamic content on your home page. Choose Cyprus and you will receive the local weather-cast etc. or, choose the UK and enter your old post code (for example) and you will receive the news and weather etc. from the place where you used to live.
OK, now click "See your Page" and you are taken to your own personalised iGoogle home page. It will already contain some Google-powered gadgets which were determined by your previous choices, but if you look to the top right again, you will see a link to "Add Stuff" - click on this link and you are presented with pages and pages of gadgets to choose from.
You can choose and try out any number of gadgets from the choice of many: horoscopes, amazing photos, quotes of the day and funny cat photos, to mention but a few. You can include a gadget in a page and try it out. If you like it, you can keep it. If you don't like it, you can get rid of it. You can also, move your gadgets around the page, placing your favourites at the top. All this can be done by clicking on the small down-pointing arrow in the top right hand corner of each gadget.
You can build your own personalised iGoogle home page that contains all your favourite gadgets. You can also download iGoogle desktop and do the same on your computer.

We are very happy with the new phone system, as it is very clear with no delay. Since you fitted it we have had quite a few calls from friends and family in England and all calls have been really clear, as though you were talking to them across the room. Paul Lee (TRNC)

The telephone is fantastic, after struggling with Skype and paying silly prices for the mobile phone for a year we are more than happy to recommend the system.
The reception is as good as a land line and we do not have to leave the computer on. Having the extension phone in the kitchen means we can hear the phone anywhere in the house, great! Brian Hare (TRNC)
