Windows error messages

What do those Windows error messages mean?

We've all had them, we all hate them, they make some folks life a misery and they are hard to get rid of - I'm not talking about a dose of chicken pox, no, something far worse - Windows' error messages!
There you are, happily surfing along, minding your own business and all of a sudden, up it pops! A message notifying you of a problem and asking you whether you would like to notify Microsoft?
Do these messages tell us anything useful, do they serve a purpose or, help us in any way or, are they just a necessary evil? If we could understand what the message means, we may have a clue as to what caused the error, but they have become 'so' common that most people just ignore them and close down the application being used or, reboot their computer and start over again.
Certain error messages, (Missing Shortcut: Windows is searching for XXXXX. To locate the file yourself, click Browse) aren't so serious and are easy to understand. Others (A program or, worse, Windows cannot start because of a missing .dll file eg: Hal.dll which stops Windows from loading up at all) are more serious and require immediate attention. Some such as (NTLDR is missing) could indicate that there is a serious problem with your operating system or, computer.
So, what should you do when you receive one of these messages? Well, assuming that a fault is not too serious and that your computer is still working, the first thing to do is to copy and paste the message into 'Google' and have a look at what others are saying you should do and see what information you can find out about the error.
Keep a copy of the message because, if the problem is serious and you can't fix it yourself, it's a handy piece of information to have if you have to visit the computer repair man/shop.
Better still, visit www.gregorybraun.com and download the FREE "Error Messages for Windows" utility which you can then use to decipher any error messages that you receive in the future. This is a good 'little' program that gives a description of the error message in laymen's terms. Copy the error code number into the program and it will tell you what the problem is. You may not be able to fix the problem, but at least, you will know what is causing it!

We are very satisfied with the new phone system, it has great clarity and the volume at both ends is very good.
We have phoned both UK and USA and the reception on both was very good.
All in all, it is FAR BETTER than skype and x-lite and also, more convenient with being able to have phones in various parts of the house.

No complaints whatsoever with the telephone system. Seems to be working exactly how we would wish it to.

We are very happy with the new phone system, as it is very clear with no delay. Since you fitted it we have had quite a few calls from friends and family in England and all calls have been really clear, as though you were talking to them across the room.
Paul Lee (TRNC)

The telephone is fantastic, after struggling with Skype and paying silly prices for the mobile phone for a year we are more than happy to recommend the system.
The reception is as good as a land line and we do not have to leave the computer on. Having the extension phone in the kitchen means we can hear the phone anywhere in the house, great!
